I've visited my account and found about 30 notes with one topic "i've used your work/i'm going to use your work"
Sorry guys, but first point is:
- my work is not stock and it may not be used for any manipulations, as a part of someones work and i personally do not like when someones take my picture paint over it or does some primitive edit and says: "I think i did great job!"
and the second point:
- a lot of my works have been sold on different conditions, so if you use some work which i've sold for book cover (exclusive rights), it will be your big problem with publisher, i don't think that you need a trial
the 3rd:
i have to mention that you need a permission for any kind of use!
though i do not mind if you do traditional art inspired by my work and nobody will

I fully agree with your approach and what you wrote here. Check out the photos of this guy (whose work I think is great): [link] He has a very nice footer about copyright on each of his photos + a watermark as well. Even despite this his journal entries sometimes say that someone has used his work without permission anyway, but I suppose it limits this type of incidents. So perhaps you could do the same thing for your work. Cheers.
